There is a movement to try and make one standard Hawaiian language for Hawaii. He said they were speaking the Hawaiian language that is spoken on their island of Niihau. I asked a Hawaiian friend if he knew what language they spoke. ![]() They spoke in a language I had never heard before. We went to a cultural event in Maui and stood next to two ladies selling Niihau she'll leis. A privately owned island Niihau is the one island where Hawaiian language is the dominant language.
